How to export an audio file?

Audacity is a free and open-source digital audio editor and recording application software, available for Windows, macOS/OS X, and Unix-like operating systems.

How to export an audio file?

We are going to show you how to export an audio file which you worked on.

For WAV File

  1. Go to File > Export > Export as WAV. A dialogue box is going to appear on the screen to save it.
  2. Don’t name the file same as Audacity project. This is advised to make sure you will not change your Audacity project to your exported file.
  3. Select a location in your computer to save your recorded or edited audio. Select “WAV (Microsoft)” in the Save Type As bar when saving your file.
  4. Click the Save button.

For MP3 File

If you want to export an MP3 file, you have to download another software with the name of LAME MP3 encoder. It is third-party software that encodes the Audacity project to MP3. Once you have this software on your PC, you can save your project in MP3 format.

  1. Go to File > Export > Export as MP3. A dialogue box is going to appear on the screen to save it.
  2. Don’t name the file same as Audacity project. This is advised to make sure you will not change your Audacity project to your exported file.
  3. Select a location in your computer to save your recorded or edited audio. Select “MP3 Files” in the Save Type As bar when saving your file.
